Quartz Counters VS Other Counter Tops

By Karen Heyfield

Quartz countertops are the most popular counter tops for the modern day house. The key factors for this are cleanliness, quartz stain resistance, beauty, availability and price.

How is Quartz Produced?

Quartz is among the most abundant minerals on Earth, thus Mother Earth does most of the labor. In an open pit mine, referred to as quartz quarry, miners dig deep into the material.

How are Quartz Countertops Constructed?

The maker takes the quartz crystals from the mine as well as grinds them down. Size varies from tiny as sand to as large as gravel. Next, they mix in a binding agent, and then form it to the shape of the appropriate quartz countertops. Lastly, the countertop is cured in an oven.

Versus Granite Counter tops

The greatest difference between granite and quartz counter tops is maintenance. Granite counters require sealing every 12 months. It is neither tough nor costly, but it's a continuous obligation. An additional benefit of quartz is that it's less porous than granite. In other words, quartz is far more resistant to staining and it is a lot more resistant to germs, which makes it a better choice.

Vs Marble Countertops

Marble is a much less famous choice compared to granite is and that is because marble has even bigger maintenance concerns. Some people will pick marble for the opulence issue, however marble wears down faster than granite and much quicker than quartz. Marble entails quick as well as frequent cleaning up, and even with proper maintenance, it won't last as long as quartz does. Polished quartz is nearly as wonderful as marble, and the disadvantages make marble a total poor option.

Versus Lava Stone Countertops

Many purchasers make a lava stone quartz comparison because lava stone includes a unique style and is as blemish, scratch and heat resistant as quartz. The biggest issue with lava stone is that it is costly, and lava counters are a lot more costly than quartz counters. Lava stone is not a bad option if cost isn't an option, but quartz provides much greater worth.

Versus Concrete Counter tops

Concrete could be painted, stained and stamped, so granite counter tops are a bit more functional aesthetically compared to quartz counters are. Concrete is also very long lasting as well as affordable, so generally, it is a solid alternative to quartz. The key benefit quartz has is that it is not permeable, which makes it much better to clean and more sanitary. Sometimes homeowners prefer concrete to match a current design, but a neutral color quartz sink or countertop is a choice also.

Versus Timber Counters

Butcher-block counter tops are produce of hardwoods like walnut, red oak and teak. These tops are affordable and easy to set up, and when there's ever any damage to them, they're relatively simple to fix. These counter tops are also fabulous and earth-friendly. On the downside, wood counters aren't nearly as long lasting as quartz. They will burn and also scratch, and they can also warp due to humidity.

Versus Laminate Counter tops

Laminate counter tops can be bought in a variety of colors and patterns, and they're just about the most affordable countertop choices on the market. On the other hand, they aren't chip, scratch and heat resistant, and maintenance as well as repair can be hugely pricey.
