A Short Review Of A Wingback Chair

By Ericka Mcclay

The wingback chair is an easy chair that incorporates enclosing wings on either flank of the seatback. There exist two kinds of wings. One kind of wings extends from atop both armrests to either side of top frame of the seatback. The other kind spreads from either armrest to the topmost frame of the seatback. A few of them are lolled.

They were prevalent when hearths were used to warm up the house. This is attributable to the fact that they could be placed facing the heat source so that the enclosing wings could absorb this heat. The enfolding wings would consecutively use this absorbed warmth to warm up the head and the torso. Their legs were built from timber, and they unembellished.

Either fabric or leather is utilized to upholster the majority of the present models. Occasionally, upholstering is also carried out on the wings, thus, offering the user further sitting and napping positions. Additionally, they are wadded in the seat and seatback by foam or batting. For artistic value, their timber legs are decorated.

The atypical wingback chair features intricate reclining functionalities that allow the user to relax or sleep. They also have foot rests that spreads outward when the seatback is reclined. Various models have varying degrees of recline. Some of them can extend till they lie flat, while others have an incline in the seat and seatback which prevents them from extending to the flat position. These reclining functions are activated by either pulling the hand-activated lever affixed on the flank, or by depressing the seatback.

The two varieties of wings are the scroll wings and straight wings. Straights wings are angular and they extend from the armrest to the top edges of the seatback. The scroll wings are uniquely curved with the bulging portion of the curve extending across the top of the seatback. The straight wings are used for heat absorption, while the scroll wings are for artistic allure.

Nowadays, homeowners buy them to enhance the interior aesthetic value of their house. Rarely are they bought for everyday use. Hence, homeowners must choose the models that best blends with the existing interior decor of the house. Fortunately, most models have been designed for use in conventional or avante-grade settings.

They require a lot of space because they are bulky. Therefore, the homeowner should make sure that there is space available to place the chair that he/she is planning to purchase. Other factors that the homeowner ought to consider before purchasing the wingback chair are cost, style and designs available.
