Guidelines To Safeguard Your House While On A Vacation

By Julissa Mcclosky

Taking a vacation might be the best thing that can ever happen to you but leaving your home unprotected against burglars is one thing you should be prepared. When you have that schedule for your vacation, make sure that your home is protected and you leave no traces of evidence that you are not inside your home.

Have your daily subscription cancelled for the days that you will be gone. You can either have it all mailed to you when you get back or simply cancel the subscription as of now. This is to throw off burglars from identifying that you are not at home at that moment.

Other than that, you can ask the neighbor to collect them for you in the morning. You can let your trusted neighbor pick up the mails you receive daily and get them when you get back from your vacation.

Another sign that you are away is that there is no car in the garage. You can either borrow a car from your friend when you are away or you can leave yours behind inside the garage.

You can erase all doubts from your mind if you ask a friend or a relative to sleep over at your place while you are gone. Make sure they are properly provided though so that they will not leave the house to get some food.

Make sure that you plug off your landline and turn off your answering machine while you are gone. Having your answering machine on without anyone answering it will give burglars the idea that nobody is inside your home at the moment.

Try not to talk about your vacation in public places. You might want to tone down your conversations with your friends at public places especially if it involved you leaving town. It is much better that you keep your plans to yourself first.

The most basic guideline to leaving your home protected is to have all windows and doors locked. All of your careful planning will go to waste if this basic rule is left unchecked.
