Safeguarding Your Business Using Disguised Cameras

By Jereld T Smythe

Our dining establishment had been robbed many times in the past. The perpetrators would come in via the front door, strike, and exit out the backdoor. In spite of our security system, the video cameras simply were not facing the right way.

As a result, their faces were not visible. To get around this, we decided to position a security camera over the back door but did not want it to be obvious. I spoke to a local CCTV dealer and he showed me some restaurant hidden security cameras to choose from.

Surveillance cameras are gadgets used to discreetly monitor an area for activity. They are utilized by storeowners to catch criminals in the act and, to do so, are made to resemble regular home and office items. This way, no person will suspect being spied on.

I bought an exit sign hidden camera with built-in DVR. Since the DVR was integrated, no special set up was necessary. It could record video footage right away.

To be able to see the footage, you have two options. The first is to remove the built-in SD card and place it into a card reader for download. Secondly, you can use the included RCA cable to hook it up to a TV to watch the video footage.

This exit sign hidden camera had a few other features which we found helpful in the course of our work. One was motion-activated recording, which causes the camera to start recording as soon as it picks up motion within its range.

Another feature was motion detection area masking. Considering that we had a restroom around our backdoor, we did not want activity here to set off the motion sensor. So, we used this feature to prevent motion within that area from activating the camera.

Our exit sign hidden camera proved to be a great investment when it helped us to apprehend a criminal and recover our goods. We invested then in more restaurant hidden security cameras, and are satisfied with each of our purchases.
